Signatures offers a full range of resources -- from in-home consultation to delivery and installation -- so that a project may easily progress from the ground up to every final detail, says Kathryn. Once personal needs are assessed, she draws on her strong sense of design to develop an overall decorating plan and create room settings.

A recent success story involved a complete modification of a nine-year-old girl’s bedroom, beginning with creating the design concept and continuing through selection of paint colour, furniture, accessories, custom bedding, and window treatments. “From the moment I met them, they helped us and guided us,” explains Cheryl Besant, describing her experience with Signatures. Redecorating their daughter’s bedroom was a project the Besants had considered for some time, but were unsure how to begin. Kathryn gave them the direction they needed, right down to every last detail including personally ensuring that window treatments were properly installed, says Cheryl.

An integral part of Kathryn’s business is building relationships with people, from her staff to her clients. From the time a customer walks in the door, to the day their purchase is comfortably ensconced in their home, the excellent staff at Signatures are there to ensure that individual needs are met and that no detail is overlooked. In the case of the Besants, every last detail came down to a hand painted floral design on a desk. When the piece arrived and the colour didn’t quite match the rest of the room, the family was impressed to see that the Signatures staff repainted the design in the correct shade.

Interior decorating has been a passion since childhood, when it was fun to rearrange accessories in the rooms of the family home, remembers Kathryn, who is also founder and chair of the Meningitis Research Foundation of Canada. A few courses along the way, plus plenty of experience, have enhanced her natural creative talent, giving her a “gift of vision” when it comes to planning a room.

Indeed, her inherent knack for bringing a “look” to fruition is appreciated by many clients. Regarding her recently renovated entranceway, Leanne Arnold says: “Kathryn chose everything perfectly. I couldn’t have chosen better myself.” She is now having her living room completely redone and marvels at Kathryn’s attention to detail and her ability to incorporate the most unusual pieces into a spectacular conclusion. “She’s gone the extra mile, picking out carpet, wall colour, making lighting suggestions. She’s put the whole picture together, so that when you walk in, everything sort of flows from one room to the next.” And, describing the current floor to ceiling renovation of her condominium completely managed by Signatures, Gail MacKintosh says: “Kathryn’s attention to detail is superb ... She really takes the time to listen.”
